Your Healthy Happy Yogi Kid Quiz Results Are In!
Your child’s primary archetype is …
THE TREE TRUNK
YOUR CHILD’S PERSONALITY TRAITS AT A GLANCE:
STEADY - HELPFUL - LOVING - EASY GOING - FOCUSED - NURTURING - GROUNDED
Your darling child is calm, focused, and steady in their nature, and being in their company is pleasant and calming. However, in the mornings, it’s almost impossible to get them out of bed. In fact, sometimes they could spend the entire day in bed and not be bothered.
Let me guess … your child enjoys taking care of their siblings or friends, and generally wants to give. They’re like an old soul and very grounded, like a tree trunk. But watch out, if they get angered, which is rare, they won’t forget.
Your child is slow to get started, but once they do, they’ll stay on track until they’ve completed their task. If you think of the race between the tortoise and the hare, your child is the tortoise. “Slow and steady wins the race” is their motto.
You’ll notice your Tree Trunk has a mellow, easy going personality, and is systematic in their thinking and approach to life. They get along easily with their classmates. Where they can fall down is in their sluggishness, resistance to change, and tendency toward being a couch potato.
Vigorous, aerobic yoga, combined with a daily breathing and meditation practice, will serve your Tree Trunk child well. Incorporate plenty of fresh vegetables throughout the day, avoid white sugar, and serve fresh fruit instead of sweets. This is a great daily routine for your Tree Trunk child.
Tree Trunk children can get stuck in their patterns and experience jealousy, greed, and attachment. Changing things up and taking on new challenges will help your child thrive, so consider encouraging them to do something outside their comfort zone, like learning a team sport or taking a music class.
This quiz is about how to better understand your child, and more importantly, how to take what you learn to help them become healthier, more resilient, and in harmony with the world around them.
If you’ve ever asked yourself, “How can I set my kid up for success and a joyful existence?” then keep reading because we’ve got some out-of-the-box ideas for you that will work with their nature and help them build a skill set that leads to a lifelong sense of connection, self-care habits, and positive human values.
Sound better than the parenting books you've seen on the shelf? Let’s dig in!
How to help your child build self-care habits and skills that turn into joy and confidence:

Tip 1 - Build Ojas: Vital Life Force Energy
Eat fresh food! Freshly prepared fruits, vegetables, and grains will help your child to thrive. Packaged foods, frozen foods, and canned foods have lost their prana, or life-force energy. When a vegetable is as close to being freshly picked as possible, it delivers the maximum amount of nutrients, energy, and just plain goodness.
What is Ayurveda? Ayu means “life” and Veda means “science”, so Ayurveda is the “science of life.” Ojas is the primary vital life force that leads to health and vitality. When we eat fresh food, we build up our Ojas.
You may be thinking, ‘I barely have time to cook as it is. There’s no way I’ll ever find time to cook with my kids.’ Well I have news for you. Children love to be involved in meal prep, especially chopping fruits and vegetables, and anything you’ll let them!
Have a picky eater? Research shows that kids are more likely to eat something they’ve been involved in preparing. So let’s get our hands dirty!
These are child-safe knives which fit perfectly into small hands. They are zigzag, to avoid cuts, but still sharp enough to chop potatoes and carrots. Parents around the world are enjoying the help of their kids with meal prep!
Joie Kid Safe Knives
If you’ve gotten this far, you may be thinking, “That’s great, but my kids will make a big mess and I’ll be the one cleaning it up!” My friend I hear you. Getting kids to clean up takes organization and training. We have resources for you too! For now, make clean up fun and teach them that it is part of cooking. They’ll be so excited to cook with you again, that you can use your next cooking session as an incentive to make sure the clean up process happens!
With a little organization and training, your children can be your assistants in the kitchen and grow into full Yogi Chefs themselves! I have students who are cooking dinner for their families once a week or more, making sesame kale noodles, carrot ginger soup, and even apple pie! Creating the time and space to train a child in the kitchen takes work, but the results are worth it, both long term and short term.
Lastly, you may be worried about running into a few spills, or even cuts and burns in the kitchen. These are valid concerns. I have found a solution that works surprisingly well: breathing! When the kids practice breathing, we create awareness, and this mindful practice becomes our safety insurance.
We like to call it sharp knives, sharp minds.
You may have heard that it is dangerous to work with a dull knife in the kitchen. The extra effort to chop can actually cause accidents. Well, I ask you, what about a dull mind? How would that affect the results you’re creating in the kitchen? Have you cooked when your mind is distracted or you’re in a bad mood? It usually doesn’t turn out so well. That’s why we practice breathing before each cooking class, so our minds are clear and we can be the best chefs possible. And you can do that at home, too! (More on this in Tip 2!)
Here’s how to put Tip 1 into action:
Schedule some time in your calendar to cook with your kids. Start with once every other week, and build up to once a week. Remember, the more the better! Next, decide on what you’ll create with them! Here are a few recipes, complete with video tutorials to spark inspiration:
1-Minute Kale Mac n’ Cheese
DIY Healthy Chocolate
Easy Spring Veggie Risotto
And of course, here is where you can get your child safe knife!
Now have some fun, and enjoy these precious moments where, whether you know it or not, you’re building a healthier, more resilient child — all while having fun.

Tip 2 - Train Your Child’s Inner Buddha: Breathe Out Stress, Breathe In Peace
How does breathing benefit kids? More than ever, today, our children are stressed, anxious, and traumatized. In the wake of current events, from political turmoil to climate change, it is our responsibility to give them tools to handle their negative emotions and stress. When we teach them to breathe, we give them a way to take care of themselves.
The mind is like a kite. It flutters back and forth between the past, present, and future. When there are too many thoughts, or the mind gets stuck on an event, stress occurs.
The breath is the string that reels in the kite. You can't tell your mind to stop being angry or stop thinking about the past. But you can breathe. The breath is always in the present moment, and it gently brings the mind to the present as well. The present moment is where joy and bliss reside.
Certain kinds of breathing have been scientifically shown to reduce anxiety and stress, and to help build self-confidence, self-worth, and joy. Who doesn't want their child to be joyful?
If you're seeing your child suffer from anxiety, stress, or even depression, teach them some breathing today. Check out Chef Neelam teaching a breathing technique below. And make sure to practice with them. Practice as a family. Do not make it seem like a punishment, instead make it a fun family activity. And chances are you will find something wonderful for yourself as well!
You may be thinking, “My child would never sit still for even a minute, let alone five minutes.” That is why I always start a breathing practice with a little bit of movement first. Shake your hands or do a few minutes of yoga, and then sit down and breathe. In our cooking classes we always start with running games or yoga, and then we sit and breathe.
Children are able to sit through the breathing and enjoy it. For some kids, it might take some cajoling, playing upon the expectation that soon we’ll be cooking delicious food together, but in the end they are very appreciative that I took the time to teach them breathing.
Here’s how to put Tip 2 into action:
Here is a video of Chef Neelam teaching a simple breathing technique. Do it with your child. It is more fun together — and it is likely that you'll both feel great!

Tip 3 - Discover the Super Yogi Within. Let’s go on a Planetary Adventure!
“Health is not a mere absence of disease, it is a dynamic expression of life, in terms of how joyful, loving and enthusiastic you are.”— Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
Yoga is super fun! Not only does it strengthen your body, but it sharpens your mind and wipes away negative emotions. Yoga is challenging, and it increases flexibility. Here are just a few of the fun postures I love to do: Sun Salutations, Tree, Triangle, Warrior, Cobra, Bow pose, and Shoulder stand! If you watch babies, they naturally do yoga. They will also hold their toes and smile. That is called Happy Baby pose!
Being a Super Yogi is not only about twisting your body into a pretzel. It's also about living yogic values with the people around us and the planet. That means we can practice compassion, kindness, and human values with everyone around us and take care of the planet, leaving it a better place than we found it.
Recently a group of my students and I decided to do something about the crisis of deforestation the planet is facing. We learned that trees store carbon, which is one of the main causes of climate change. So, we decided decided to do something. We partnered with www.onetreeplanted.org and raised $6,000 to plant trees. One Tree Planted takes every dollar donated and plants a tree.
I wanted my students to learn that they did not have to be a bystander in our changing world; they could make a difference too. Just because you're young does not mean you are powerless.
Being a true Yogi means taking care of the planet. That means eating vegetarian as often as possible and eating foods with a low carbon impact. Unfortunately, the beef industry is one of the main reasons for deforestation on the planet. Did you know that every second, an entire football field of trees is cut down by the beef, soy, palm oil, and paper industries? We can do our part by eating one more vegetarian meal, cutting out red meat, avoiding products made with palm oil, and using less paper.
Here’s how to put Tip 3 into action:
Learn together. Figure out how what goes into your pantry impacts your planet, and make a plan for finding healthier foods for your bodies and the earth. Plant a tree, start a garden, help yourself AND the world.
